elemi (n.) A fragrant gum resin obtained chiefly from tropical trees of
the genera Amyris and Canarium. A. elemifera yields Mexican elemi; C.
commune, the Manila elemi. It is used in the manufacture of varnishes,
also in ointments and plasters.
